On an early Monday morning, the Raby Construction team gathered at the Meals on Wheels Greenville headquarters to package over 1,300 meals for our homebound neighbors in need.

The experience was equal parts rewarding and sweaty, but we enjoyed rolling up our sleeves to volunteer together. Our team included our office and administrative team, a member of our concrete division, and two ladies from our marketing firm.

After a brief orientation on the mission and daily tasks of Meals on Wheels, we suited up with our gloves, aprons, and hair nets. The nonprofit organization delivers nearly 1,500 meals every weekday via 130+ routes. They rely on volunteers to pick up the hot and frozen meals, delivering regularly to the same neighbors every week.

Every Monday through Friday, Meals on Wheels partners with volunteers like us from 8 – 10 a.m. to package the meals that have already been prepared by the kitchen staff. Our menu was burger patties with peppers and onions, steamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and fruit.

We were each assigned a menu item and trained on the ideal way to scoop the food and maximize the prepared meal to stretch as far as possible. By the end of our two hours of volunteering, we had all developed “expertise” on how to serve our food items best.

Meals on Wheels honored our volunteer service by including our brand on every vacuum seal meal packed that day. It was a kind way to recognize our efforts.

Our own Kennie Raby, daughter of Michael and Diana, was also able to volunteer, helping prepare mailers while we packed meals.

Serving Meals on Wheels in this way is a team-building experience we could not recommend more to other companies looking to give back in a meaningful way. We know the team at Raby will be back!
