In 2009, the Swamp Rabbit Trail opened in Greenville County—the treasured trail system is now a network of more than 28 miles connecting schools, parks, and businesses in the shadow of the Blue Ridge Escarpment.
(The Blue Ridge Escarpment is the geographic area between the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Foothills of Upstate SC. It is actually a sheer drop-off created by the movement of tectonic plates and water).
The trail connects the communities of Greenville, Travelers Rest, and Fountain Inn, but the growth is only continuing. Every day, people in our community use the trail for transportation, recreation, and exercise. It truly has become a tourist attraction, utility, and staple.
That’s why Raby Construction is so proud to be part of the Trail’s legacy. Our team constructed one of the early Swamp Rabbit Trail bridges that crossed a section of the Reedy River. It was built as a pedestrian pathway and helped extend access to the trail network in Greenville’s Cleveland Park.
It is not every day that we have the opportunity to work on a project that yields such a positive effect for so many people. As a local company, it is particularly rewarding to help contribute our talents towards something that has a larger impact on the community overall.
The Swamp Rabbit Trail, with its ability to connect neighborhoods, promote healthy lifestyles, and boost local economic activity, aligns perfectly with our vision of what a thriving community should be.
Participating in community-focused projects also strengthens our relationships within the local area. It allows us to collaborate with city planners, local businesses, and residents, fostering connections that go beyond typical client-contractor relationships. These partnerships often lead to future opportunities for similar work.
We are grateful for the opportunity to build a portion of the Swamp Rabbit Trail and look forward to future chances to create meaningful projects that build and strengthen our community.
